My 10 Hours and A Lot More!!

Racquette Lake

This semester I went on an Out-Door Inclusive Adaptive program with Dr. Davis and fifteen other students from SUNY Cortland for a weekend. During this weekend I helped adaptive adults hike up mountains, canoe, learn knots on a rope, and just talked with them. It was one of the best camping trips I was ever on. Not only did I have the chance to teach about the out-doors but I was taught things about life. The highlight of the weekend was when we all got to the summit of Blue Mt. The joy in everyones faces was priceless and the determination and perserverance was unbelievable. Camping, eating, talking, and canoeing with my new friends was motivating to concentrate in adapted at SUNY Cortland.

Another adapted program I assisted in was in Syracuse. I helped Dr. Davis andother students play with children who had spinalbifia. We played power ball for about 3 hours in wheelchairs. Everyones heart rate was racing and everyone was sweating. This was another great experience for me. I learned new techniques and got to listen and learn new things about children with disabilities, children with different abilities I like to say.

Last Day Of Class

Well today was a sad but joyful day in class. I walked into a class full of activity video games- Dance Dance Revolution and another game I never seen before but its content was to fight off ninja warriors. These games are a great way to help people of all ages be active. Even though it is a video game that is played indoors, it increases your heart rate and makes you sweat. I plan on using these games in the future.

What I really want to comment on is the growth I see in my teaching skills. From teaching my first Punting lesson to my last Yoga lesson is night and day. Even my first Yoga lesson to my last one is incredible. The knowledge and confidence I have gained is tremendous and I have to thank my teacher for that. I was learning to be a better teacher without even knowing it. I look back at my lesson plans and my grades and I have improved a lot. So, my final thought on this semester is... Remember, WORK HARD and HAVE FUN because I did and it paid off. I look forward to my field experience in January.
